A few of our applications need to talk to remote machines through IBM‘s Websphere MQ Platform. MQ Series is a message oriented middleware which provides the communication mechanism between applications on different platforms (even mainframes).
IBM provides a utility called saveqmgr to export objects, such as queues, channels, etc. defined in either a local or remote queue manager, to a file. This makes easy to migrate the queue managers from one machine to another.
Download the utility from IBM’s website and unzip the contents into IBM’s websphere bin directory, e.g. C:\Program Files\IBM\ \bin in windows 2003R2.
To export the queue manager objects, open a command prompt and execute the following command
saveqmgr -m 'Queue Manager Name' > 'Output Filename'
To import the queue manager objects, ensure that queue manager is running and execute the following command
runmqsc 'Queue Manager Name' < 'Output Filename'
If there is no queue manager already setup, create a new one on Websphere MQ explorer and run the aforementioned command. Finally restart the queue manger.
